My guess is that we'll be down to only the pairs of shoes of which I approve within the week.

We do that too, with McDonald's toys.
"That toy is not safe for your little brother. It needs to stay in your room or I will throw it out without warning or negotiation."
So far, I think he's managed to hold on to two Happy Meal toys in about three years.
